01/ WHAT IS EXTATE JEWELLERY?

Estate jewellery is a term used for previously owned jewellery. Generally speaking, pre-owned jewellery is not as valuable as new jewellery, however there are exceptions – estate jewellery that is still in style can retain its value and antique jewellery is highly collectable and therefore can command a very high sale price.

02/ DOES DAMAGED JEWELLERY HAVE ANY WORTH?

Condition is a main factor in determining the value of estate, pre-owned and antique jewellery. Sometimes, damage can be so extensive that the value of a piece is simply the going rate for the component parts. If taking your damaged jewellery to a cash-for-gold company, the stones may be removed and discarded, inhibiting you from cashing in their value. If you are considering selling damaged jewellery, it is worth looking into having it professionally repaired and cleaned before the sale as this could fetch you a better price.

03/ HOW MUCH OF JEWELLERY'S VALUE IS DETERMINED BY GEMS OR MEATL?

The type of jewellery, style, gems and metal all impact the value of pre-owned, antique and estate jewellery. In some cases, gems can determine a large percentage of the value – as much as 99% in some cases. Other times, if the style has fallen out of fashion, the piece is damaged or there are other problems the value is determined on the weight and type of metal and any stones that are in the piece.

04/ HOW MUCH OF JEWELLERY'S VALUE IS DETERMINED BY GEMS OR MEATL?

The type of jewellery, style, gems and metal all impact the value of pre-owned, antique and estate jewellery. In some cases, gems can determine a large percentage of the value – as much as 99% in some cases. Other times, if the style has fallen out of fashion, the piece is damaged or there are other problems the value is determined on the weight and type of metal and any stones that are in the piece.

05/ DOES THE TIMING OF MY JEWELLERY SALE IMPACT THE PRICE I WILL GET FOR IT?

The timing of your sale can sometimes affect the price you will get for jewellery, especially gold jewellery. Gold prices fluctuate daily and often rise when the economy is shaky. It is worth considering the state of the economy when selling jewellery, especially if you are selling pieces made from gold.

06/ CAN I TRADE IN MY OLD JEWELLERY FOR NEWER ITEMS?

At Glydon and Guess we offer a professional evaluation service, purchase jewellery and accept trades of older pieces for newer items.
